The former Commander of the International Space Station will visit Lincoln to offer an insight into his fascinating career in space.

Dr Steve Swanson has logged over 195 days in space and flown on three space missions during which he completed five space walks. After joining NASA in in the late 1980’s, Steve spent over a decade working first as a Systems Engineer and then as a Flight Engineer working on training aircraft. He was selected as an astronaut in 1998 and after completing space walks totalling over 28 hours, was the recipient of the NASA Exceptional Achievement Medal.

During his talk, Steve will discuss his career path from software engineer to astronaut, revealing what life is like aboard the International Space Station and sharing memories, photos and video footage of his time in space, including what it is really like to set foot on another planet.

The event, which is a collaboration between non-profit organisation Pint of Science, the University of Lincoln and the International Space School Trust, will be held on Thursday 5th December 2019 at the University of Lincoln’s Isaac Newton building from 7:00pm to 9:30pm.
